Haute-Couture Swimwear for Kings

In a bold statement of fine art, men's fashion and nude photography, King for a Day unveils an extraordinary new project; a collection of uniquely-designed in Australia's Whitsunday Islands, handcrafted and one-of-a-kind men’s artistic swimwear and campaign project.
Not merely garments, the TRUNKS collection are wearable artworks crafted with precision, intention and spirit of artistic experimentation that blurs the lines between design and sculpture, utility and expression. Made for kings and discerning collectors, each trunk is designed and styled in Australia, exists in a strictly limited edition available exclusively from the artist.

Art Meets Swimwear

Lush, tropical abstractions drawn from the Australian coastline, infused with motion, foliage and texture. From the beginning, the TRUNKS project was envisioned as art, with King for a Day creating original digital artworks that form each print.
An extensive search ensued to ensure the perfect connection of both print and fabric, resulting in a high-quality sample manufacturing process in Melbourne, Australia. Printed onto lightweight and breathable performance fabrics, these designs are then tailored into two distinct styles ~ the Australian-inspired 'Speedo-style' and a Brazilian-inspired 'Sunga-style' ~ both are equal parts flattering and functional. From there, the true artistry begins.

This isn’t about mass production or seasonal trends. As King for a Day puts it, “These trunks are the opposite of disposable fashion. They’re gallery pieces, built to be lived in, swum in, photographed and admired.” They are designed for the most confidant of kings.

Original Designs

Artistic Process

Using natural materials for inspiration including hand-collected sea shells, sculptural ropes, burnished wooden beads and lustrous glass, King for a Day meticulously hand-embellished each piece. Studio shots reveal the delicate process ~ needles threaded through soft cotton cords, beads then anchored to the trunks in ways that elevate them into ornamented artefacts.

This embellishment process is at the heart of the TRUNKS project: a merging of material, form and ritual. It’s slow fashion, turned poetic. Attention to detail evokes ceremonial dress, drawing on themes of masculine identity and adornment as self-celebration.

King for a Day celebrates confidence, masculinity and freedom. In the words of King for a Day, “Trunks are crafted for confidant kings.”
Exclusive Collectors Release

Following the successful debut of the TRUNKS artworks, King for a Day is pleased to announce a limited pre-sale release: only 150 limited-editions of each TRUNK garment will be made available. This exclusive offer invites collectors and admirers to own a wearable piece of this collection ~ an investment in both the artworks themselves and the evolving KFAD legacy.

The power of this series lies in its intimacy. The minimal scale. The personal investment. The choice to make just two of each design ~ ensuring that the pieces remain rare, precious, and intimately connected to the artist’s hand. Whether they’re worn, framed or archived, these trunks hold the weight of intention. They are functional sculpture. They are design as story.

Collector’s Campaign

Only eight sample pairs exist across the four styles. Four will be released to collectors as part of a highly-limited release, coinciding with a concept photoshoot by King for a Day in Melbourne and accompanying photobook launch and pre-sale campaign.

This is no ordinary campaign. Selected male model Adam Howie boldly embodies each look and style, bringing his own story, physique and personality to the collection. Adam wears his assigned designs like a totem ~ part swimwear, part costume, part crown, expressing his freedom with unabashed confidence.
Shot on location in Melbourne by King for a Day, the exclusive photoshoot becomes a visual celebration of the male body, fine art, and aesthetic environment. The digital campaign photobook Confidence is King ~ successfully blurs the boundary between marketing documentation, editorial fashion photoshoot, and naked male ambition ~ a standalone work of art featuring fashion and flesh.
